Palestinian parliament wants new government
Palestine, Politics, 10/4/2005
The Palestinian legislative council on Monday took a vote urging the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to form a new government because of the continued state of armed disorder in Gaza after the Israeli withdrawal from it.
Most of the Palestinian parliamentarians supported a report by the parliamentary committee criticizing the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Ahmad Qurei because of the way he deals with the state of chaos in Gaza. But the matter has not yet reached the extent of calling for a vote of non-confidence in the government.
The committee has submitted a report during an extraordinary meeting for the Palestinian legislative council in which it held the responsibility of the deteriorated security conditions in Gaza on the government of Qurei. It accused Qurei's government of failure to ensure security for Palestinians, demanding withdrawal of confidence from his cabinet.
These developments came following the exploding confrontations in Gaza between the Palestinian security departments and activists from Hamas movement, and this resulted in killing three persons and injuring 67 others.
The parliamentary committee in its report called also for the resignation of the leaders of the Palestinian security departments and held them responsible, together with the minister of interior for the deteriorated security conditions.
Al-Jazeera satelite TV in Palestine said there is a possibility that a middle solution will be reached to have the parliament abstain from voting non-confidence in the government of Qurei is a ministerial reshuffle takes place, noting that there is a proposal to divide the ministry of interior into two ministries. One is the ministry of Interior and the second is the national security.
