Abul-Gheit expresses Egypt's concern over spiralling violence in Iraq
Iraq-Egypt, Politics, 10/3/2005

Egypt's Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul -Gheit Saturday expressed Cairo's growing concern over the increasingly volatile security situation in Iraq and the spiral of violence.

During a meeting with James Jeffrey, Senior Adviser to the US Secretary of State and Coordinator for Iraq, Abul-Gheit highlighted the importance of intensifying efforts to improve the situation in Iraq and urge the parties to the conflict to resort to dialogue as a catalyst for enhancing the political process.

The Egyptian top diplomat reaffirmed Cairo's keenness on maintaining Iraq's unity as well as its Arab identity.

Jeffrey affirmed Washington's keenness on informing Egypt of its assessment of the situation in Iraq. He told reporters that he held fruitful discussions with the Foreign Minister and his aides on the developments in Iraq.

Exchange of expertise between Egypt and the US with the aim of improving the situation in Iraq and helping achieve a democratic, federal and united Iraq, was also high on the agenda of the meeting.
