17 killed in inter Somali fighting
Somalia, Politics, 10/3/2005

Some 17 persons were killed and other 28 injured on Sunday in Somalia during two separate clashes among warring groups.

Some 12 persons were killed in a clash in Tighialo town, the minister of national reconciliation Adam Muhammad told journalists in Jawhar, 90 km to the north of the capital, where the headquarters of the interim government is located. These clashes also resulted in injuring other 20 persons.

The second clash which resulted in killing 5 persons took place in Biundeiri area, north of Mogadishu, between fighters belong to one of the militias leader Abdul Qader Muhammad Beibi and members of other militias.

Medical sources said that among the victims are civilians who were killed by indiscriminate gunfire. Witnesses said that several citizens in the area evacuated their houses of fears that the clashes will continue.

Somalia remained a stage for a civil war since the collapse of the regime of Muhammad Seyad berri in 1991 at the hands of warlords. The conflict resulted between 300 to 500,000 killed persons and clashes are continuous between warring factions.

Since the end of 2004, Somalia has owned interim political establishments, represented in the president of the country, a prime minister, a speaker for the parliament and a parliament. This was after long peace negotiations in Kenya, but differences in the lines of the Somali leaderships still threaten the hopes of the Somalis, and threaten the escalations of the drastic situation in the country.
