Kidnapped brother of Iraqi interior minister released

The spokesman for the office of the Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sader said that the brother of the Iraqi minister of interior, who was kidnapped on Saturday, was released.

The spokesman, Abbas al-Rubei, said that four members of al-Mahdi army where in a vehicle near al-Sader city northeast of Baghdad on Sunday evening and saw a car without a license plate and they chased it, adding that the passengers of the chased car opened the door of the car and threw out Abdul Jabbar Soulagh who was admitted to the headquarters of al-Mahdi army in Sader city.

Earlier, the police said that Abdul Jabbar was kidnapped at the hands of gunmen near Sader city while he was driving his car to his office as a director of one hospitals in this city.

In another development, the director general of the ministries of municipalities and public works ministry was killed at the hands of gunmen in al-Mansour quarters, west of Baghdad. A source in the Iraqi ministry of interior said that gunmen opened fire at Safaa Muhammad Jasem while he was driving his private car.

In Karkouk city to the north of Iraq, two Iraqi policemen were killed and other four Iraqi soldiers were injured in two separate attacks by explosives. One police officer was exposed to fire that resulted in killing his wife and wounding his son.

The falling of several mortars shelling in the surrounding of the ministry of the interior, east of Baghdad, resulted in killing one Iraqi and injuring 6, while one Ministry of the Interior Maghawir officer was killed when armed men attacked his car in al-Amereyah area west of Baghdad.

Iraqi security forces announced the detention of 17 wanted persons in inspection and vast breaking in operations launched by the Iraqi security forces backed by the coalition forces in the surrounding of Baqouba northeast of Baghdad.
