Graduation of new batch of air force cadres
Syria-Regional, Politics, 10/3/2005

Under the patronage of President Bashar al-Assad, a graduation ceremony was held for a new batch of air force and other specialized cadres at the Air Force Academy on Sunday.

Representative of President Assad at the ceremony, Chief-of-Staff of the army and armed forces Lieut. General Ali Habib, delivered a speech in which he called on the new graduates to follow up and upgrade the knowledge they got at the Academy so that the Air force would remain always ready to repel any aggression against the national airspace.

He also urged the new graduates to keep up training on the use of arms and keeping them in continuous combat readiness to defend the nation.

"Syria is destined to play an active and pivotal role in light of the ongoing events in the region, particularly in Iraq, Palestine and Lebanon under the occupation and chaos whose circle has been spreading day after day under the pretext of false democracy and liberty," said the Chief of-Staff.

He asserted that "Syria has been obviously working for establishing a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East based on the UN Security Council's relevant resolutions on the region."
