Al-Assad stresses national unity to face pressures; juducial reform

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad said Sunday that the basis to confront pressures is the "national unity, self-confidence and trust in Syria's fair stances towards events of wars, occupation and aggression Arab nation is exposed to."

"Syrian political decision independence is based on the country's capability to boost its developmental energies, invest its economic and geographical position, as well as improve work performance in all fields of life," President al-Assad added in a meeting with Syrian Cabinet at al-Shaab ( people ) Palace, to discuss judicial reforms and a national plan to protect children.

President al-Assad reviewed the latest developments in the region and pressures Syria is exposed to "due to its clear stances toward national and pan-Arab causes."

Later, the Cabinet discussed a project proposed by the government to reform the judiciary and combat corruption in the judiciary system. The project includes a group of procedures to clean the judiciary body from individual corruption cases and boost independence and credibility of judicial system in Syria, protect citizens' rights, in addition to a series of measures to improve judges' standards of living.

The president told the Cabinet to pursue adopting necessary steps for the judiciary reform program as soon as possible, underlining the principle of transparency and dialogue with citizens.

The Cabinet also discussed the national plan to protect children submitted by Chairwoman of Syrian Commission for Family Affairs Mona Ghanem.
