Five Moroccan killed while trying to sneak to Spain
Morocco-Spain, Local, 9/30/2005
The Moroccan- Spanish summit was overwhelmed by the death of five illegal immigrants during a mass sneaking attempt to Spain when hundreds of African immigrants launched an attack at a fence separating between Morocco and the occupied city of Sebta.
Stories were contradictory on the conditions and implications of the death of the migrants which took place hours before the Moroccan- Spanish summit.
A source close to the Spanish government said according to a medical report, two men were killed by bullets that are not used by the Spanish forces.
But Moroccan security sources denied that. The police directorate in Tatwan (north) announced that the Moroccan forces did not use weapons against emigrants who tried to seank collectively to Spain.
Morocco confirmed only the killing of two persons on its lands by rubber bullets "fired by the Spanish side."
The police center in Spain indicated that the two killed men were suffocated or crashed during the operation which was carried out during nighttime by 500 emigrants trying to infiltrate into the border fence of the Spanish pocket.
During this attempt, 87 secret emigrants were gravely injured. On the Moroccan side, 18 emigrants were injured, one of them was in a critical condition and all of them were admitted to Tatwan hospital.
