Five American soldiers are killed in Iraq

The American army on Thursday announced that five of its soldiers were killed in a bomb explosion implanted on the road side during their participation in armed clashes in Ramadi city in al-Anbar governorate, west of Iraq.

The killing of the five American soldiers came one day after the killing of also one American soldier in al-Ramadi.

The US forces have been witnessing a difficult armed confrontations in al-Anbar governorates which has a Sunni majority. By the killing of those soldiers, number of American soldiers killed in Iraq during the five past days increased to 13.

The commander of the American forces in Iraq George Casey admitted that conditions in Iraq might deteriorate even if the draft constitution is approved this month.

In another development, the British forces in Basra, southern Iraq, handed over the responsibility to running a small base in al-Zubeir area to the Iraqi army, considering that the Iraqi armed forces have become able now to shoulder its responsibilities in the city.
