Al-Assad emphasizes press role in voicing citizens problems

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad underscored on Thursday the "importance of the media and its role in making truth reach the public opinion and in expressing in a clear and frank way citizens concerns."
Meeting members of the Journalists Union Council, President al-Assad noted that this should cover all aspects of life either at work or the living conditions.
The president called journalists to, "uncover the false idioms currently used in various mass media related to issues of the homeland and the region."
A discussion was made over problems obstructing journalists' work specially those concerned with the government-run institutions, and there was a call to point at errors in an objective and credible way, and an urge to find appropriate solutions.
The president also talked with journalists chiefs on means and ways to upgrade the journalist work and press institutions. President Assad made an explanation of the political condition in the region and Syria's stances taken in light of pressures she is exposed to in addition to the internal situation and the undergoing process of reform.
