Sudan: UN reports further deterioration in Darfur after new attacks
Sudan-UN, Politics, 9/29/2005
The security situation has deteriorated in Sudan's West Darfur region following an attack by a large number of Arab tribesmen on an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp and villages, with indications that the camp was burnt to the ground, the United Nations mission reported today.
Secretary-General Kofi Annan's Special Representative Jan Pronk "is deeply concerned about the upsurge of violence in Darfur at a time when every effort is being exerted to speed up a peaceful solution to the conflict in the region in the framework of Abuja talks," a statement issued by the UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) said, referring to talks being held in the Nigerian capital.
