US: Iran will be prevented from rights it has
Iran-USA, Politics, 9/27/2005

US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack acknowledged yesterday that the US goals and IAEA against Iran are to prevent Iran from develeping certain nuclear skills, fuel cycle capabilities, even though these skills are ligitimate under the NPT, as the US had previously acknowledged (see references).

McCormack said yesterday speaking on US efforts, and US supports that "from the beginning of this process, the goal, our goal, working with the EU-3 and others on the IAEA Board of Governors has been is to get Iran back to the negotiating table with the EU-3. Nobody wants to see Iran obtain nuclear weapons, especially not under the cover of a civilian nuclear program. Nobody wants -- the other parties of the Board of Governors don't want to see Iran have access to sensitive nuclear fuel cycle technology as well as know-how. That is the goal -- that's what we're trying to achieve here. The process is not an end to itself; the process is merely a way to get to that goal"

Iran had asserted its absolute right to develop the fuel cycle capabilities allowed under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Agreement, and that Iran will not be deterred from such right.

These latest remarks by the US can be seen as clear evidence that the US action is motivated by politics against Iran, as it did when it insisted that it knew the motivation of the Iraqi government under Saddam Hussein and what the Iraqi government possessed in terms of nuclear weapons, charges that were proven completely false, and caused a war with untold damage.

The New York Times reported on March 16, in further evidence of other statements, that "In their public statements and background briefings in recent days, Mr. Bush's aides have acknowledged that Iran appears to have the right - on paper, at least - to enrich uranium to produce electric power. But Mr. Bush has managed to convince his reluctant European allies that the only acceptable outcome of their negotiations with Iran is that it must give up that right."

It can be deduced from the pattern of the IAEA decisions and statements, that it is to a great part a political entity, rather than an the entity it was expected to be, which is an unbiased organization with the function of merely enforcing the rules and rights of its member countries regarding the non nuclear proliferation treaty. The IAEA in effect is more or less another tool, to implement the major powers policies, as opposed to protecting the rights of small members. The US stated last week that "one way or the other, this issue is going to be dealt with" according to US goals and objectives, and those of its friends. Iran says it will act firmly to affirm those rights.

Today, IRNA reported that Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani said "the resolution passed by Board of Governors of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) against Iran lacks legal foundation and Iran expects the member states to review the resolution." Larijani attending a press conference said today if eventualy Iran is reffered to the UN Security Council for its activities "the Europeans should be aware that the Iranian nation will continue supporting the program."
