People's movement of Sudan takes part in Abuja negotiations

The Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) said it appointed a delegation to take part in the negotiations which are taking place under the auspices of the African Union in Abuja, Nigeria between Darfur rebels and the Sudanese government.

The movement which signed a peace agreement with Khartoum in January this year said that the delegation includes senior officials in the movement including the cabinet affairs minister Ding Alour, the spokesman for the movement Yasser Araman, and the leading member in it Abdul Aziz al-Helo.

Both the two rebel movements of Sudan's al-Adel Wal Musawat (liberation and justice and equality) in Darfur notified the African Union and the representatives of the international community and mediators on the need that representatives for the SPLM be included in the delegation of the Sudanese government, and that the negotiations will be incomplete without their participation.

The new foreign minister and the leading figure in the SPLM, Lam Akol, said that his movement will discuss a project for settling Darfur settlement peacefully so as to reach a comprehensive vision provided by the government to the armed forces.

Akol explained that the settlement project aims to finalize a peaceful solution for the problem of Darfur, adding that the people's movement (SPLM) has good relations with the armed movements. The minister said that the people's movement wants the people of Darfur to enjoy peace," already enjoyed in southern Sudan.
