Qatar foreign minister denies calling to hurry towards Israel
Qatar-Regional, Politics, 9/27/2005

The Qatari foreign minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasem Bin Jaber al-Thani denied what had been rumored on his call to the Arab states to establish relations with Israel. He stressed that the question of these relations is decided by every and each Arab state.

The Qatari minister said on al-Jazeera Satellite TV that ending the problem with Israel can be made if legitimate national rights for the Palestinians are restored.

He stressed the need that the Arabs deal directly and in a transparent way with this issue and to quit duality and duplicate stances with Israel, adding that "bright false mottos" are no longer useful.

He criticized the Israeli attempt to prevent the Islamic resistance movement Hamas from taking part in the Palestinian legislative elections. He explained that Hamas is part of the Palestinian people and it is its right to take part, and any attempt against that means the Israeli side is not serious in the peace process.

On the situation in Iraq, the Qatari minister said that his country supports Iraq's stability and the success of the political process in it through maintaining cohesion among all its sects, and maintaining a fair sharing of authority and resources among them.

He refused any intervention from Iraq's neighboring states in the internal affairs of Iraq, stressing that any interference in Iraq should be in the interests of the Iraqi people and any difference contrary to that is considered as dangerous. He also stressed Qatar's readiness to send an ambassador to Iraq when the security situation improves.

Concerning the American threats to Syria, Sheikh Hamad stressed that the region does not need any new crisis, and dialogue should be embarked on in order to solve any problem.

On the Iranian nuclear file, the Qatari minister stressed that his country supports a Middle East free from nuclear weapons including Israel. He called for solving this file through dialogue without resorting to force.
