US forces free 500 Iraqis from Abu Ghreib jail

In another development in Iraq, the American army and the Iraqi authorities released some 500 detainees from the infamous Abu Ghreib jail on the occasion of the nearby fall of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, and also three weeks before the date of the referendum on the new constitution.

The US army said that the detainees group which left on board of public buses are not accused in critical crimes like explosions, tortures and kidnapping or killing.

This is the second release operation at this site for Abu Ghreib jail after releasing 1000 detainee in August on 24-27.
