Egypt strongly denounce the Israeli bombardment of Gaza
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 9/26/2005
Egypt has strongly denounced the Israeli bombardment of Gaza and intensified contacts with the parties concerned for halting acts of escalation and attacking Palestinians. Egypt also called on the Quartet to interfere for halting the Israeli escalation.
Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul -Gheit said Egypt is deeply concerned over the Israeli bombardment of Gaza and the deteriorating situation in Gaza Strip.
Abul -Gheit warned in a press statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs against the risks of return to the vicious cycle of violence and counter violence.
He said Cairo was holding contacts with all parties concerned to stem the deterioration of the security situation in Gaza Strip after recent violent events.
Using military aircraft in attacking civilian areas in the strip is a violation of international law and a direct threat to the lives of defenseless civilians, said the Egyptian top diplomat, appealing to the Israeli government to stop using force against the Palestinians.
The Palestinian Authority is the only quarter in charge of enforcing law and order in the Gaza Strip, he pointed out.
On his part Dr. Osama Al Baz, the Presidential advisor said Egypt's role is represented in avoiding any excesses on both sides besides taking part in maintaining security and stability in Gaza. He said Egypt was also seeking to secure the implementation of all steps provided in the roadmap.
He said the policy of assassination and mass killings is hollow and would not serve the interests of Israel and the Israeli people.
