Butaflika seeks reconciliation, but not completely
Algeria, Politics, 9/26/2005
The Algerian President Abdul Aziz Butaflika announced, at a time when he is trying to promote a pardon law for reconciliation among Algerians to put the past behind them, while delivering a speech in al-Aghwat city on Sunday, that leaders of the banned Islamic Salvation Front "who set the fire of sedition in Algeria during the 15 years of terrorism, cannot practice any political activity."
Butaflika said in a speech he delivered in the campaign to promote for the national reconciliation referendum set on next Thursday that there are "brothers from the leadership of the dissolved party that claim that "I was hard on them because the draft charter bans them from practicing any political activity. Do they think that the Algerian people have forgoten the 15 years of terrorism?"
Butaflika explained "the matter is not a violation to their honor," rather it is demanded from every Algerian "to give sacrificed to serve the national interests."
