Sunni call to ban fighting among Iraqis
Iraq, Politics, 9/24/2005

Members of the Muslim Scholars Commission, Sheikh Mahmoud Mahdi al-Sumeidai, has called on the Iraqi forces to convene a national dialogue and reconciliation and writing a document of honor banning fighting among the Iraqis.

Sumeidai urged in his Friday s sermon in Um al-Qura mosque in Baghdad the religious clerics "to take into account this matter which calls for unity and fraternity as prescribed by the God Almighty."

He urged the Arab rulers and the Islamic countries not to keep silent over what is taking place in Iraq of acts of killing at the hands of the "enemy which want that Muslims kill each other."

Al-Sumeida' also called on the Iraqis to reject the draft constitution which he described as part of the conspiracy planned to be carried out in the country.

Several religious, political and tribal forces of the Arab Sunnis reject the draft constitution. These forces called on the Iraqis to reject it in being a danger that would lead to the partition of the country.
