Sufferings of Iraqis on Syrian border continues, Baghdad is silent
Iraq-Syria, Politics, 9/23/2005
The crisis of the Iraqis returning back from Syria to Iraq is still being perpetuated at the Syrian- Iraqi borders at Rabeiya - Yaroubeyah crossing, northwest of Iraq.
Among those are scores who had performed al-Omra ( minor al-Haj rituals) in Saudi Arabia, and many other patients, families, teachers, students and employees. All of those people appealed to humanitarian organizations to interfere with the Iraqi government to open the border and permit them to enter their country.
Al-Jazeera satellite TV reported that among those are a 13-year old Iraqi child called Adnan. Adnan arrived at al-Yarubeyah coming from Amman after his leg was cutoff in a surgery. He has been since one week waiting to return back to his mother who has been waiting for him.
Adnan, is one of hundreds of Iraqi women and men, Kurds, Arabs, elderly, children and women, who were banned according to a decision by the American forces, as they allege, from returning back to their homes after visiting friends and families in Syria.
They gather daily at the meeting of the two cities of the Iraqi Rabeiya and the Syrian Yarubeiyah towns appealing and asking for help.
One angry woman said she does not have even one Fils (cent) to buy her own daily food, and the Iraqi border guards gave her nothing while the Syrians in al-Yarubeyah give women and children all their needs of food and shelter.
One man talked about how a pregnant women were obliged to give birth in a mosque where the least of medical services did not exist.
While al-Jazeera team was filming Rabeea crossing from the Syrian lands, one Iraqi police man opened fire at the camera which was documenting part of the sufferings of the Iraqis.
