Iraqi immigration minister escapes assassination; 8 Iraqis, two Americans killed

Two American soldiers and 8 Iraqis were killed in a series of attacks took place during the few past hours in various parts of Iraq.

A military source said that one American soldier was killed and other 6 injured in a bomb explosion targeting their vehicle in al-Doura quarters, south of Baghdad, while another soldier died because of wounds he had in a similar explosion in Karkouk, north of Iraq.

Four body guards working for the minister of expatriates and the expelled in Iraq, Suheila Abd Jaafar, were killed in an armed attack in Baghdad. A source in the Iraqi ministry of interior said that the minister was not in the office when the attack took place.

Also in Baghdad, one source in the ministry of interior said that one person was killed together with two of his children on Wednesday evening at the hands of gunmen wearing Iraqi police uniform when they attacked them in their house in the new Baghdad area, southeast of Baghdad.

In Baghdad, gunmen assassinated one Iraqi colonel in the Iraqi police with his driver on the road leading to Kanaan city.

Al-Mansour quarters in the capital Baghdad was a stage for the most violent clashes between gunmen who were hiding in a house and the Iraqi forces backed by American soldiers. Five gunmen and three Iraqi security forces members were killed in the clashes.

One truck carrying communication equipment for the American forces was attacked by one explosive implanted by unidentified persons on the highway near Beji city to the north of Baghdad. The American forces which cordoned the site of the explosion did not comment on the incident.
