Fire in Iraq's public works ministry
Iraq, Military, 9/22/2005

An official in the Iraqi police said that a large fire erupted on Wednesday evening in the building of the Iraqi ministry of public works. The official said that fire fighting cars hurried to the place but gave no further details, and it was not known yet the size of the losses inflected on the ministry.

This fire came at a time when attacks and explosions continued in various parts of Iraq, the most violent of which was in al-Mansour quarters in Baghdad between gunmen hidden in a house where they seize one Iraqi as a hostage and the Iraqi forces backed by American soldiers. Sources in the Iraqi two ministries of interior and defense admitted the killing of five gunmen and three members of the Iraqi security forces in these clashes.

Also in Baghdad, two members of the Maghawir police were killed and other three injured in an armed attack targeting their vehicle on Wednesday early morning in al-Shuula quarters. Two bodies were found in the same quarters. The police said that the two bodies were roped and had traces of torture and gunfire.

In another development, the American army said in a statement that it killed in a raid at a suspected shelter in Musil seven gunmen. One Iraqi child was killed and another injured in this raid.

A security source at the Iraqi ministry of interior said that the American army has been launching since Tuesday air raids at al-Dalou'eya city north of Baghdad.

The American forces cordoned all al-Jabbour quarters area in al-Dalou'eya. It was not known if the operation resulted in casualties. The leadership of the coalition forces abstained from commenting.
