Turkey decides to remove mines from border with Syria

Turkish authorities have decided to remove mines planted along the border with Syria in the southeast of the country to use these regions in agricultural projects.
The Turkish Ministry of Finance announced in a statement that the choice was made on the city of Mardin as the first region to eliminate mines from, saying that the cleaned region of about 55,000 dunnums would be planted with cotton.
The statement said that mines would be removed from an area of 55,000 dunnums at Shanli Orfa city, west of Mardin, as well from 34,000 dunnums of Kalis and 15,000 dunnums of Ghazi Eintab.
It pointed out that there is large interest from some U.S. companies as well British and Ukraine to supervise the project.
