Saddam Hussein's nephew sentenced to life imprisonment

An Iraqi court on Monday sentenced the nephew of the former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to life imprisonment over financing armed operations and explosions in Iraq, and he has to be brought before the court on additional crimes later.

A statement issued by the relations department for the Iraqi cabinet said that the central criminal court issued a preliminary sentence of life imprisonment against Ayman Sabaawi Ibrahim al-Hassan. The son of the brother for the toppled Iraqi president under the charge of financing the activities of the "rebels and and manufacturing explosives."

The statement read that as a result of what was disclosed by the trial on confessions about other criminal acts committed by Ayman Sabaawi, a later trial is to be made in November 1st.

The statement of the Iraqi government accused al-Sabaawi that he was "working together with his brother in providing financial support and supplies to the armed groups and weapons and explosives."

In the same trial, his partner Tareq Khalaf Muziil was also convicted over having and manufacturing explosives and he was sentenced to three year imprisonment.

In May, al-Sabaawi was announced arrested during a breaking in operation in one areas north of Tikrit, north Baghdad.
