Syrian- German private university opens

Syria's Minister of Higher Education Hani Murtada opened Sunday the Syrian-German Private University of al-Wadi' in Homs governorate.
" The Syrian government has prepared the required foundation to develop Higher Education sector through rehabilitation personnel and scientific missions," the minister said in a statement. "Having private universities may play a main role in the honest scientific competition, a matter which is in Syria's interests." Mortada added.
In a similar statement, Germany's ambassador to Syria underlined that this university will enhance the Syrian-German relations, expressing his country's readiness to support higher education in Syria.
The ambassador pointed out that al-Wadi university will be a part of European universities.
On the other hand Canadian ambassador in Damascus indicated that Canadian institute of Halifax will participate in the university "which will publish culture and be a bridge for cultural communication that the government is seeking for."
Earlier, President Bashar al-Assad in July 3 issued Decree No. 281 for the year 2005 which licensed the establishment of the Syrian-German Private University of al-Wadi', its headquarters at Wadi al-Naddara in Tel Kalakh area in the Syrian central city of Homs.
