Bashir in Egypt

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak receives Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir who was due in Alexandria Saturday on a one-day visit to congratulate President Mubarak on his victory in the recent presidential elections.

Al-Bashir will brief Mubarak on the developments of the situation in Sudan with emphasis on the peace talks with Darfur rebels.

Meanwhile, presidential envoy to Darfur peace talks Ambassador Ahmed Haggag said that President Mubarak was highly interested in accelerating the pace of peace talks in order to find out a solution to the Darfur problem.

The Ambassador who is taking part in the sixth round of the peace talks that began in the Nigerian capital of Abuja Friday said that he conveyed to the parties concerned President Mubarak's assertion that they should make use of the recent positive developments in Sudan to strike a peace deal.
