30 killed in various attacks, explosions in Iraq

Attacks and explosions continued in the past hours in various parts of Iraq, the last of which was the blowing up of one booby trapped car targeting the Husenieh ( a holy site for the Shiite) of the "great prophet" in Touz Khourmato district in northern Iraq, killing 10 and wounding 25.

The deputy leader of al-Touz police Lt. Hussein Ali Rashid said that the Iraqi police was able to arrest one Saudi men wearing an explosive belt intending to carry out a second explosion.

In Baqouba northeast of Baghdad, unidentified persons opened fire at six Iraqis from one family and killed all of them as they were returning back from their work to their residence in Bahraz area.

Earlier in the day on Friday18 Iraqis were killed including the Imam of a Shiite mosque and other 120 were injured in a series of attacks that took place on Friday morning in Baghdad and its suburbs.

A source in the Iraqi ministry of interior said that three Iraqis were killed and other 13 injured when gunmen attacked unidentified persons riding five cars.
One of the car of the attackers ran to al-Qanat neighboring street and opened fire at a car for the ministry of transport and telecommunications and this resulted in killing one employee and injuring two others, according to the same source.

In al-Sader city armed men opened fire at a car carrying Fadel al-Rubei, a member in the office of the Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sader and the preacher of Imam Ali Mosque, and he was killed instantly.

Unidentified men killed three persons after gunmen attacked two trucks for transporting supply items on the highway in al-Adel quarters, west Baghdad. One of the trucks was burnt and traces of bloods were seen in the second. The Iraqi police and the American forces besieged the site of the incident.

In the south of Baghdad, the director of Alexandria district Amer al-Khafaji and four of his guards were killed and two others injured in an attack by gunmen disguised in Iraqi army uniform at his house.

Three Iraqi police officers were killed and other 4 injured in al-Haswa area.

At least 40 Iraqis were killed, most of them were members of the Iraqi police while other scores were injured. Al-Qaida organization in Iraq claimed responsibility for the attack and threatened in a statement issued on the Internet to launch more attacks.
