Egypt to mechanize rice cultivation
Egypt-South Korea, Economics, 9/16/2005

Egypt and South Korea have inked a technical cooperation protocol to mechanize rice cultivation and harvest in Egypt.

Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Ahmed El-Leithi, and minister of Military production, Sayed Meshaal, signed for Egypt, while South Korean ambassador in Cairo Chio Senng-Hoh singed for his country.

South Korea, under the co-singed protocol, is to cooperate with the ministry of agriculture and land reclamation in implementing a system to help mechanize rice cultivation and harvest in Egypt. It will also provide for the necessary machines by which the mechanical system works.

Egyptian farmers will benefit from the new system, which saves about 25% of water and seeds during the cultivation and harvest process. Phase one will cover 10,000 feddans which will be provided by the ministry before the stage of mass-production of equipment starts.
