US threats against syria are due to US failure in Iraq, papers
Syria-USA, Politics, 9/16/2005
The USA is increasing pressure on Syria in order to escape blame from the impasse in Iraq, the London-based al-Quds al-Arabi paper said Thursday.
"Most of politicians and analysts, particularly in America see that Washington can't escape the Iraqi impasse particularly after the political process's failure there, so the US administrations began to look for excuses and scapegoat, finding no one but Syria to blame," the paper said.
The paper clarified that Syria can't control her 800 kilometers border with Iraq alone, saying "every border have two sides, and every state is responsible for protecting its side of the border, therefore the US and Iraqi forces are in charge too and responsibility should not be thrown only on Syria's shoulders."
The paper mocked at the US promises to transform Iraq into a luxury and freedom land, noting that new Iraq didn't export freedoms or democracy as the US administration promised but "it turned into a source of violence for its neighboring countries."
On the other hand, Egyptian news paper al-Ahram warned against accusations and allegations against Syria, stressing that all theses allegations match the demands of the US administration's neo-conservatives who aim to target Damascus.
"Latest provocative statements by the US ambassador in Iraq and Iraqi minister of defense carry the same idea, which is, targeting Syria and increasing pressures on her," the paper said today.
