Sunnis deplore Baghdad's explosions
Iraq, Politics, 9/15/2005

Sunni figures and establishments including the Muslim Scholars Commission and the Islamic Party as well as the Sunni Waqf denounced Baghdad's Wednesday explosions and called for calming down the situation.

More than 150 persons were killed and hundreds injured in 11 suicide explosions by booby trapped cars and attacks that targeted Shiite areas and aggregations, the Iraqi forces, and the American forces in Baghdad.

The Muslim Scholars Commission in Iraq considered al-Kazemeyah explosion as an "unjustified reaction to the terrorism conducted by the Interim Iraqi government."

The secretary general of the Iraqi Islamic Party, Tareq al-Hashimi, condemned the killing operations which targeted innocent civilians in al-Kazemeyah and al-Shuula. He deplored in an al-Jazeera TV program the military operations in Tel-Afer which resulted in the killing scores of innocents on the background of resisting terrorism.

The Sunni Waqf divan, Ahmad Abdul Ghafour al-Samera', condemned Baghdad's explosions. He said that Iraq suffers two types of terrorism. The first is veiled and the second is organized using government's instruments to kill the Iraqis under various pretexts and without the knowledge of the Iraqi ministry of interior. He rejected the allegations to hold the Sunni mosques responsible for that.
