Reactions to US pressure on Syria
Syria-USA, Politics, 9/15/2005
General Union of Arab Students in Syria stressed Wednesday its support to Syria in the face of "US - Zionist pressures and baseless campaigns against her".
The Union, in a statement, called on Arab students to exert every possible effort on the national and pan-Arab arenas to expose the aims of foreign plots being hatched against the Arab states.
In Paris, French L'Humanite Newspaper said that the escalation of US pressure and accusations against Syria are associated with the increasing number of public rejection of the US occupation of Iraq from one side and the deterioration of George W. Bush's popularity at home from the other side.
The newspaper, in an article published Wednesday by its correspondent in Iraq, criticized the US pressure campaign against Syria, saying that what raises doubt and astonishment is the escalation of US threats against Syria in the meantime and after the vast military operation of US troops in Iraq's Tel-Afar.
Meanwhile in Sanaa, members of the second general conference of Yemeni Unionist Popular Liberation Party expressed "solidarity with Syria in the face of US-Israeli plots," underlying Syria's legitimate right to restore the occupied Syrian Golan.
Chairman of the National Council for Yemeni Opposition Yassin Saeed also stressed that the Yemeni opposition parties back Syria in the face of US pressures.
