Syria rejects US accusations on Iraq as baseless

Syria strongly rejected on Tuesday accusations of the U.S. ambassador in Baghdad over border infiltrations as "baseless," and said they were posing as another act in a series of the US pressures on Syria.

U.S. ambassador in Iraq Zalmay Khalilzada threatened on Monday to resort to the military action against Syria saying all options are opened as Syria is allowing infiltrators across borders with Iraq.

"These accusations are baseless and they are posing as another act of the U.S. consecutive pressures to express an old well known policy of exporting crisis and blaming others just to hide failure in keeping Iraq's stability as well protecting his peoples security," the political analyst of the daily Tishrin said.

The paper questioned the U.S. ambassador use of the language of threat saying it was "a strange thing that the ambassador of a super power is using the language of threat instead of being more committed to international relations traditions."

"Threats to stage an aggression is a style that reminds us of the colonial ages and the cold and hot wars. It does not match with the humanity aspirations towards ties built on bases of peace, security, equality and mutual respect," the paper said.

It underlined that these repeated threats "are strongly rejected and they raise our astonishment particularly that the U.S. ambassador was not speaking form Washington but from the Arab capital of Baghdad that all Syrians care about its security and stability due ties of relatives and history."

" Here we have to remind that Syria has exerted and still all in her best to protect the borders and back Iraq in consolidating his stability and protecting his unity," the paper said.

It noted that this was a firm and public Syrian position and not a tactic that aimed to deal with a certain situation. "It is a principled stance that is based on Syrian national belief and fraternal policy with Arab brethren and faith that Arab countries security and stability cant be divided."
