Women for peace march marks final preparations in Syria
Syria-Regional, Politics, 9/14/2005

The organizational and technical committees for the "Women on Bicycles for Peace" rally, organized in Syria by the Syrian Panel for Family Affairs and Areeba Telecom Company, have put final touches for making the event a success to "present Syria's real image and express solidarity with the issues of Arab women and children."

Director of the Public Relations at Areeba Telecom, Fares Kallas, on Tuesday told SANA that the rally, in which 300 women from Arab and foreign countries are to participate, is set to kick off from Beirut on Sep. 15 then runs in Damascus and Amman, ending in Ramallah.

He added the participants would move from Beirut towards the Syrian borders on Sep. 18 down to Damascus streets before heading for the Syrian-Jordanian borders the next day.

Kalals said while in Syria, the participants would visit several cities, archeological and tourist sites.

The organizational committee added two new tracks to the rally:visiting the area overlooking the occupied village of Majdal Shams and the liberated city of Quneitra to see the destruction left by Israeli occupation troops, particularly the city's hospital and mosque.
