Israel expresses to Egypt concern over controlling the borders with Gaza
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 9/13/2005

Israel has expressed to Egypt its concern over the security control of the borders with Gaza one day after Israel's completion of its withdrawal from Gaza to end four decades of occupation.

A high ranking Israeli official who requested to be anonymous said "we have expressed officially to Egypt our concern," noting that Israel understands "what had happened as it relates to emotional acts," in remarks to the flow of the Palestinians via the barriers between Gaza and Egypt to meet with their relatives.

This came at a time when the joys of the Palestinians were mingled with sorrow and sadness following the killing of 8 Palestinians in the first day the Palestinians live in Gaza free of settlements and settlers.

Al-Jazeera said that seven Palestinians drowned off what used to be called the settlements of Ghoushe Katif, south Gaza. Sources in the Palestinian civil defense said that the drowned Palestinians hurried to swim to the coast in the peak of their joy of the evacuation of the occupation.

Earlier, one Palestinian was killed by bullets near the security fence which separates Gaza from Egypt. Witnesses said that the source of the bullets which hit the killed man in the head was the Egyptian borders guards who tried to prevent the Palestinians from crossing the border fence.

However, the spokesman for the Egyptian presidency Suleiman Awad denied that the Egyptian border guards had opened fire at the Palestinian Nafez Adnan Ateyah ( 34 year old), attributing that to random Palestinian bullets as a result of the Palestinian celebration of the withdrawal.

For his part, the spokesman for the Palestinian ministry of interior Tawfiq Abu Khousa said that the Palestinian authority is investigating the incident, warning against any attempt to approach the border fence as a violation to national security.
