Syria deny allowing foreign, Arab fighters into Iraq
Syria-Iraq, Politics, 9/13/2005

In the course of the Iraqi accusations against Syria of permitting Arab and foreign fighters to sneak to the Iraqi territories, Baghdad closed its borders with Syria.

The Syrian foreign ministry deplored the statements made by the Iraqi defense minister Sadoun al-Duleimi in which he called on Damascus to stop sending "destruction" to Iraq.

In an official statement, the Syrian foreign ministry expressed its regret and strong condemnation of al-Duleimi statements, noting that the Iraqi officials know well that Syria makes all possible in order to control its side of the border with Iraq, and that it is not responsible for the two sides of the border, and that the security responsibility is totally the responsibility of the occupation forces, and the Iraqi authorities are the only side responsible for that.

Some Syrians say that Iraq uses Syria as an excuse to cover the Iraqi failure to control its internal security.

On the other hand, the leader of al-Qaida organization in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, accused the American and Iraqi forces of using "poison gas and mass annihilation weapons" in their attack against Tel-Afer. In a taped message on the Internet, Zarqawi described the fighting in north Iraq as decisive, stressing his group will inflict defeat on the American forces in al-Qaem.

The Islamic Army In Iraq announced a reward of $100,000 for anyone that kills prime minister al-Jaafari and $50,000 for killing the minister of interior Baqer Soulagh and $30,000 to kill the minister of defense, in reaction to the military operation conducted against the city of Tel-Afer. In a statement on the Internet, the Islamic Army called what it described as Mujahideen to intensify the operations and painful attacks.
