Secular opposition in Algeria for boycotting reconciliation document
Algeria, Politics, 9/12/2005

The opposition coalition party for culture and democracy in Algeria has joined the advocates of the call to boycott the referendum on national reconciliation due on September 29th.

The coalition which is presided over by Saeed al-Saddi called in a statement issued by its national council on the Algerians who are careful for the peace of their country and its independence to ignore this referendum and not to legalize it by all peaceful means.

The coalition considered that the referendum is a historical mistake and a threat to the nation, noting that Algerians will witness on September 29th what he called an "extra deception operation", noting that terrorism will be increased after an operation which will only result in weakening the moral and civilian pillars of the nation.

Earlier, the opposition socialist forces front led by Hussein Ayat Ahmad, the rival for the coalition party called for boycotting the referendum on the peace and reconciliation charter proposed by the Algerian President Abdul Aziz Butaflika.

Ayat Ahmad considered that the project is just a deception that aims at holding the killers as non guilty and the victims as criminals and mixing the reasons and effects of the Algerian crisis.

However, both the coalition and front decided to take part in the local branch elections to take place in Kbyle area on November 24 to choose members of the municipal councils which were solved by the government in an agreement with Tansequet al-Oroush ( the major family in Kbyle area).
