The Jewish synagogues in Gaza
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 9/12/2005

The persistence of Israel not to demolish the synagogues in Gaza raised the regret of the Palestinian Authority which considered that as an attempt to embarrass it before the world and distort the image of the Palestinians if these synagogues are demolished.

The spokesman for the Palestinian ministry of interior said that the authority decided to demolish the synagogues upon the completion of its control of the sector today, Monday.

The Palestinian civil affairs minister, who is in charge for the file of withdrawal Muhammad Dahlan said in a press conference in Gaza that "these synagogues are no longer synagogues, and therefore what happen to abandoned buildings will apply to it."

The advisor for the Palestinian security Jibril al-Rajjoub said in a statement to al-Jazeera TV that the Palestinian Palestinian authority will not accept to guard a symbol that remain from the time of occupation. Western mass media said that some of the Palestinians destroyed the windows of two synagogues in the two settlements of Kfar Daroum and Natsartim.

The Islamic resistance movement Hamas warned in a statement against keeping the Jewish synagogues in Gaza, considering them as "illegal and built on a land where occupation has no right to make a change " and that keeping them are for political rather than religious reasons.," considering that these synagogues should be removed with the evacuation of the occupation from Gaza.

On the other hand, the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon considered in statements to the Washington Post that continued building of major settlement aggregations in the West Bank, despite the expected objection from the USA. Sharon repeated his determination to keep the major settlement blocs in the West Bank according to any peace agreement in the future.
