Garang plane crash not due to technical problems

A senior Russian experts taking part in the investigation into the plane crash in which the Sudanese First Vice President and leader of southern Sudan People Liberation movement, John Garang, was killed, said that the accident was not a result of any technical failure in the Ugandan helicopter which was carrying him.

Garang and other 13 persons were killed no July 30 in the crash of the Ugandan Presidential Copter of MA- 172 type while taking them from Uganda to south Sudan.

Rodolf Timorazov, the director of the technical security for the aviation committee which has Moscow as a headquarters, explained that the plane had no technical problems.

The Russian expert said that the device for recording voice conversation found in the copter's leading cabin was found and is in a good condition, while the second device which records technical data of the copter was destroyed in the incident.

The results of investigators are based on that he crash incident was not because of technical failure, on the ground that the talks made between the leading cabin between the captain of the plane and the observatory tower were "normal" until the moment when the plane crashed, and contained no signs that there was a technical failure.

The Russian expert speculate on the reasons behind the incident, but he indicated that the weather conditions were bad in the area when the crash took place.

He added that all data and conclusions collected by the Russian investigations, including recordings on the recording device, were sent to the Ugandan, Sudanese and Kenyan authorities which had a key role in the international investigation.
