Syria works to prevent infiltration to Iraq, Castello says
Syria-USA, Politics, 9/10/2005

The Syrian authorities are cooperating and working to prevent infiltration of the armed personnel to Iraq through its borders, Commander-in-Chief of US Central Command Brig. Gen. John Castello said yesterday, hoping for more efforts in this regard.

In a press conference held in Dubai, Castello denied existence of any plans for aggression against Syria and Iran saying "Syria and Iran are two independent state and we are dealing with them in the framework of mutual respect."

He unveiled existence of contacts with some armed groups in Iraq, rejecting to give more details.

Castello underlined non-existence of a scheduled timetable for the US withdrawal from Iraq, expressing his confidence that the pull out will take place after attaining all objectives and ending the US forces missions in Iraq.
