Sudanese Foreign Minister Mostafa Othman Ismail said following a meeting Tuesday with Foreign Minister Ahmad Abul -Gheit that they discussed projects Egypt is implementing in South Sudan in line with the directives of President Hosni Mubarak.
The Sudanese official said that the meeting also dealt with bilateral relations in light of Sudanese First Vice-President Silva Kiir's visit to Egypt last -week.
He said the meeting also dealt with a number of other regional and international issues, foremost among which the issues of Somalia and UN reform.
Talks reflected identity of viewpoints on various issues, said the Sudanese Minister.
Asked about a request by the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement in Darfur to delay talks due to be held in the Nigerian capital Abuja in mid-September, the Sudanese Minister said there was no justification for postponing the date of the talks which was agreed upon by all Sudanese factions, in addition to regional and international parties.
Ismail said a political solution has become a pressing need for Sudan in order to bring conditions to normal.
The meeting also dealt with topics to be discussed by the Arab foreign ministers meeting on Thursday.
Ismail said he renewed his country's support of Egypt's proposal to hold an extraordinary Arab summit in Egypt in early October.
Asked about possible Egyptian mediation between Sudan and Eritrea, the Sudanese minister said he did not discuss the issue with Abul -Gheit.
On a call by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani to Arab countries to upgrade diplomatic representation, Ismail said Sudan already has a diplomatic mission in Baghdad.
