Sudan-Regional, Politics, 9/8/2005
Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa received on Tuesday at the League's General Secretariat Sudanese Foreign Minister Mostafa Othman Ismail, currently visiting Egypt.
At a joint press conference following the meeting, Ismail said a new round of negotiations would be held in Abuja on September 15 between the Sudanese government and Darfur rebels in order to resume discussions on key issues such as power and wealth sharing as the two issues has not been settled during the previous round.
He said the African Union and the Arab League will take part in the meetings, asserting that this round would be crucial.
Ismail noted that the situation in Darfur was improving, but one could not say that it had reached stability.
The Minister asserted his country's readiness to reach a political solution to the Darfur crisis in order to heal the wounds left by war.
