Iraq, Politics, 9/8/2005
The Iraqi President Jalal al-Talibani said that the toppled Iraqi President Saddam Hussein admitted to carrying out execution operations during his rule, considering that he deserves to be strangled 20 times a day.
In an interview with the official Iraqi TV on Tuesday evening, Talibani said he had received the investigator who interrogates Saddam Hussein, and encouraged him to proceed to this end, and notified him of "happy news that he was able to extract important confessions from Saddam Hussein, and that Saddam had signed the confessions."
He explained that Saddam committed several violations "and the matter does not only relate to al-Dajil issue, and that these admissions relate to the al-Anfal campaign, and the executions Saddam admitted he had ordered."
The Iraqi president indicated that Saddam Hussein launched al-Anfal campaign against the Kurds in the period between 1986 and 1989, and that some 180,000 persons were killed during it, and that several villages were destroyed. Talibani considered that Saddam is a "war criminal and deserves to be executed 20 times daily as a punishment for his crimes against humanity."
He indicated that the toppled president tried 20 times to assassinate him when he was a leader for the Kurdish fighters who were fighting the authorities in Baghdad.
