Continued killing in Iraq

A source in the Iraqi ministry of interior announced the killing of a high ranking official at the Iraqi defense ministry and one colonel in the Iraqi police forces, while other 11 persons including four members of the Iraqi security forces in various incidents.

According to the same source, Hadi Omran, the director general at the defense ministry, was killed and his driver was injured when they were attacked by gunmen in al-Doura area south of Baghdad. Other 7 Iraqi civilians were injured by a booby trapped car explosion targeting a vehicle for the American forces in Karradah area.

In a separate attack, Col. Imad Ismael of the Iraqi police was killed, and three of the police Maghawir forces were killed in an attack targeting their vehicle west of Baghdad.

Meantime, the American and Iraqi forces continue a large scale military operation in Tel-Afer to expel gunmen controlling the city. Medical sources in the city said that the American forces gave a grace period for the people of al-Sarai and Hassan Kawi until Tuesday evening to leave their houses in preparations to launch a large scale military campaign against it.

According to American military statements in the city, the confrontations resulted in killing 13 gunmen seven of them were killed by shelling fired by one copter at a mosque there. However, medical sources talked about the killing of 8 civilians including five children in these confrontations.

In Karabelah area, west of Iraq, American jet fighters on Tuesday bombarded two bridges on the Euphrates river, west of Iraq, on pretext of barring the passage of gunmen.

Meanwhile, Iraqi officials said that armed groups are now controlling al-Qaem city and the American forces working in al-Qaem surrounding criticized the shortage in the number of the American and Iraqi forces needed to ensure the security of the city.
