Regional, Politics, 9/7/2005
Secretary-General of the Arab Economic Unity Council Ahmed Goweili said that time is ripe to implement an Arab Marshall Plan for re-construct and development in the Arab area especially in Palestine, Iraq and Sudan.
Goweili's remarks came in a forum held with members of Alexandria Rotary Club on Sunday, where he suggested that this giant plan could be financed through imposing one dollar on the Arab daily oil output estimated at 23 million barrels per day.
Goweili called on the Arab states to improve their inter- trade rates, adding that the Arab Council drew up an investment plan that contains 3700 projects could be set up in the Arab area instead of funneling the Arab capital to foreign markets.
