Irrigation Minister: Egypt can obtain additional quota of Nile water
Egypt-Ethiopia, Economics, 9/7/2005

Egypt's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mahmoud Abu- Zeid said Monday that Egypt could obtain an additional quota of the Nile River water for its development projects.

Abu- Zeid made these remarks in a meeting with Al-Ahram editor-in-chief Osama Saraya, adding that Egypt's good relations with the Nile Basin countries mainly Ethiopia will facilitate obtaining this quota.

He indicated that the expected quota will contribute to increasing the number of the new urban communities and providing more job opportunities in Toshka and As-Salam Canal in Sinai.

He said that if the Egyptian mega projects were postponed, they would have cost the country more funds.

Answering a question on the development of the Nile Corniche, the Minister said that the project is still under study conducted by experts of the ministries concerned.
