7 gunmen killed in attack on mosque in Iraq
Iraq, Military, 9/7/2005

The US army announced the killing of four of its soldiers during the two past days in different attacks in Baghdad and to the north of the Iraq.

The American army said in two separate statements that two American soldiers were killed and two others injured in a bomb explosion when their vehicle was running in the center of Baghdad. One soldier was killed in a bomb explosion in the border Tel-Afer city, adjoining Syria, while one marine soldier was killed in a roadside bomb against his vehicle in Ramadi, west of Baghdad.

By the killing of the four soldiers, number of American military soldiers who have been killed in Iraq increased to 1882 since the invasion of the US forces of this country in March 2003, according to figures by the US defense department.

On the other hand, the Iraqi police said that three persons were killed and two others injured in gunfire at a mosque in Baghdad.

At the meantime, American and Iraqi forces are launching a large scale military operation in Tel-Afer to expel gunmen controlling the city. Medical sources in the city said that the American forces gave a grace period to al-Saray and Hassan Kawi until Tuesday evening to leave their houses in preparations to launch a large scale military campaign against it.

Confrontations in the city resulted, according to American military statements, in killing 13 gunmen, seven of them killed in shelling dropped by a helicopter at a mosque there, but medical sources talked about the killing of 8 civilians including five children in these confrontations.
