Private participation in telecommunication and energy sectors: Syrian minister
Syria, Economics, 9/7/2005

Syria's Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs Abdullah al-Dardari stressed that the third server of mobile phones in Syria will begin in 2007.

In a statement to al-Thawra daily published Tuesday, Dardari said that the private sector willing to present the telephone service will enter Syria once the country joins the World Trade Organization.

He added that this doesn't mean privatization of the telecommunication and energy sectors, but freeing them in a way that leads to re-constructing them to allow the private sector to participate in building the infrastructure projects.

He pointed out that the government will concentrate during the 10th Five-year Plan on building an infrastructure for the transport and telecommunication sectors to reinforce them in a way that enhances Syria's important economic role in the region.
