WHO-Spacetoon agreement on health awarness for Children

In the presence of Syri'a First Lady, Asmaa al-Assad, a cooperation agreement between the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Damascus-based Spacetoon TV Satellite Channel was signed on Tuesday at the WHO office on broadcasting TV massages and health programs for children and youth in the Middle East.
The agreement stipulates increasing children's awareness regarding chronic and environmental diseases, through urging them to follow up health precaution habits using scientific potentials at the WHO.
The agreement also aimed at improving the children knowledge of the dangers of environmental diseases as well as enhancing the role of the school, the family and the society in creating healthy behavior in children and activating cooperation among these circles to enhance children's health.
Dr. Hussein Abdul Razak al-Gazairi, Director General of the WHO, stressed that great efforts were exerted in the field of health education and raising the level of social awareness in the field of maternity, child and primary health care and disease control.
For his part, Director General of the Spacetoon Channel, Fayez Sabbagh, said the agreement crowned great efforts by the two sides to achieve a joint cooperative form in the interest of the Arab children.
He underlined the importance of protecting the children from harmful practices and habits through presenting health concepts through video and audio forms.
For his part, Resident Representative of WHO in Syria, Fuad al-Mujalled, briefed the attendance on the content and targets of the agreement.
He also stressed that the WHO believes in the importance of protecting children's health and in raising their awareness of the dangers of diseases.
Later the first health TV massage was broadcasted through the channel on the importance of tooth cleaning (brushing).
The ceremony of signing the agreement was attended by Minister of Higher Education Hani Murtada, Health Minister Dr. Maher al-Husami and Minister of information Mahdi Dakhlallah.
