Egypt: Priority for defending human dignity

Egypt's Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul -Gheit Sunday opened the annual International Program on Humanitarian Studies.

The programme is being organized by the Center for International Health and cooperation in New York in Cooperation with Cairo Institute for Diplomatic Studies.

Kevin Cahill, President of the Center for International Health and Cooperation, Dr. Boutros Ghali, President of the Egyptian National Council for Human Rights and Ambassador Hisham el-Zimaity, Director of the Cairo Institute for Diplomatic Studies attended the inauguration.

Addressing the opening session, Abul -Gheit asserted that the Egyptian diplomacy and academic circles have always attached importance to humanitarian issues.

Abul-Gheit underscored the importance of human dignity. The Egyptian diplomacy has been at the forefront of efforts to defend the noble humanitarian principles, he said.

In fact, promoting respect for human dignity and strengthening the efforts of humanitarian assistance have always been at the center of the humanitarian dimension of our foreign policy, added the Foreign Minister.

It is our firm belief that respect for the rights and dignity of every human being is the best way to guarantee development, peace and security, he said.

At the United Nations, Egypt has been very vocal in urging all parties to armed conflicts to respect the guiding principles of impartiality, neutrality and humanity.
