Al-Ahram: Nabil Fahmi: New measures for consolidating Egypt-US relations

"The new coming weeks are to witness measures for consolidating further bilateral relations between Egypt and the United States including the free trade zones establishment and boosting the Qualified Industrial Zones (QIZ) agreement," Egypt ambassador to the United States Nabil Fahmi said.

In a statement to Al-Ahram today Fahmi added Egypt is intensifying contacts with international concerned parties for carrying out the roadmap plan for reaching a solution to the Palestinian issue.

On the US views regarding the presidential elections in Egypt, Fahmi described present presidential elections in Egypt as historical step for Egypt and the countries of the region and that US President George W. Bush supported this important drive in Egypt as he placed the spread of democracy atop of his priorities and that the United States is following up with keen interest the important step for practicing democracy.

The United States hailed the new experiment for reform in Egypt, the ambassador added.
