Shara meets Qaddoumi: Palestinian unity underlined

Syria's Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara discussed Sunday with Head of the Political Department at the Palestinian Liberation Organization, Farouk al-Qaddoumi, the recent developments in the region.

Both sides talked about the situation in the Palestinian territories in the light of the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. "It is necessary to enhance the Palestinian national unity nowadays more than at any other time, because it will enable the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate right to return home as well as establish a sovereign Palestinian state," Shara said.

Later, Qaddoumi stressed, in a press conference held just after the meeting, that the Israeli withdrawal form Gaza strip was a result of the Palestinian resistance, noting that "Sharon and his government have destroyed the political process and went far from this process."

He rejected any kind of the Israeli existence in Gaza strip, pointing out that Israel has never negotiated with the Palestinian side or even recognized them as partners in this process.
