Elections committee defies an Egypt court
Egypt, Politics, 9/5/2005

The Egyptian Presidential Elections Committee which oversees the elections rejected to abide by the decision of "administrative district's court", on the right of the civil society organizations to participate in monitoring the election process, and ruled out the candidacy of Wahid al-Aqsari.

The Middle East news Agency MENA quoted a statement for the committee in which it stressed "not to take into account" the decision taken by the court, and to assess that "everything related to the election operation will remain as it is, and the final list of candidates will be the same composed of ten candidates, and the elections to be held in their due time on September 7th.

The decision of the committee is considered a defiance for the "administrative district" court which said on Saturday that the "right of all organizations to follow up the course of elections operations from inside and outside the committees come as a manifestation to transparency and to document the historical event."

The court also decided to alienate the chairman of the party of the Socialist Arab of Egypt, Wahid al-Aqsari, one of the ten candidates for the presidential elections from the lists of the candidates because of a conflict between him and another person related to the presidency of the party.
